5 POINTS TO SUSTAINING SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS
I have the privilege of working with some of the finest brands, clients, producers, CMOs, CEOs, celebrities, and independent companies around the world. I cherish and respect this responsibility, and recognize that I must sustain these very important relationships. Through the years people have asked how we obtain and retain these types of clients. When I think about it there is no special formula, algorithm, or business app. It comes down to five points that I've found to be successful.
This is key for any relationship; internal or external. Building trust and maintaining it is essential for building and retaining business relationships. Trust is earned!
Mistakes happen. When they do admit it, take responsibility and remedy the solution. This proves that you're a true 'partner' with your clients and most of all builds trust.
Listen to your client. This goes beyond the creative brief and project objectives. Listen to them carefully. What is their favorite beverage, restaurant, or movie? Do you know?
DROP THAT EGO
Egos kill projects, reputations and relationships. If you're a decision maker it can poorly influence important decisions. No matter how good you are, if you put your ego before your talent it's likely you won't get hired again.
RESPECT EVERY PROJECT
Cherish every project as if it's your last. It's really important that clients feel that we're giving them our full attention. Just remember that no matter the budget or client, always craft every pixel, product or service to perfection, communicate clearly, manage expectations and respect all team members. The results will be astounding.
This is not revolutionary information, but it's important to remind ourselves of it everyday. Work with integrity. Be kind to everyone, and produce phenomenal work.
